June 18th is Father's Day here in Canada and this year we are making a toast to warm Italian traditions and close family values with our captivating twist on a classic cocktail.
Introducing our version of a 'Negroni Leggero' - a mesmerizing and casual concoction celebrating the rich essence of Italian heritage while paying homage to my father and his passion for his home culture, family values and the exquisitely unique flavour of Chinotto - a traditional Italian Soda created in the 1930's.
Derived from a fragrant and small bitter orange, aptly named "chinotto" - which remains an iconic symbol of Italy's lush citrus groves to this day. The fruit is often used to produce Chinotto Soda, a popular non-alcoholic carbonated drink in Italy known for its characteristic bitter flavour.
Chinotto has become synonymous with Italian culture, representing a piece of the country's rich gastronomic heritage - the drinks distinctive flavour is an acquired taste and appreciated by those who enjoy bitter, complex flavours.
For Italian families like mine who have grown up with Chinotto as a cherished beverage, it holds a special place in their hearts, evoking memories of sunny afternoons and shared meals with family and friends.
This bittersweet non-alcoholic elixir adds a unique and vibrant touch to the beloved Negroni while keeping the alcohol percentage on the lower side, hence the "Leggero" or "Light" variation we have created here.
We think this is the perfect European deviation from the classic Old Fashioned or Whiskey Smash that are popularly and historically enjoyed by father-figures across North America. Indulge in the harmonious blend of gin's crisp juniper notes, the profound richness of sweet vermouth and the refreshing essence of Chinotto with the 'Negroni Leggero'.
Each sip carries us on a journey through the sun-soaked landscapes of Italy, invoking cherished memories. Raise a glass and toast to the extraordinary men who have nurtured us with warmth, wisdom, and love.
This Father's Day, let the 'Negroni Leggero' become a beacon of gratitude, appreciation, and the shared joy of treasuring cherished traditions with your father.
Salute!
