5 Servings| Preparation: 5 minutes |
Cooking Time: 30 - 60minutes
1 750ml bottle of your favourite Dry Red Wine
1Orange
1 Lemon
1/4 cup of Sugar
1/4 cup of water
8 Cloves
2 Star Annise
2 Cinnamon Sticks (more sticks for garnish)
METHOD
Add water, sugar, juice of 1 orange and lemon, the rinds and spices to a pot.
Heat up the mixture until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to gently bubble.
Add the red wine and cook the mixture on low flame for 30-60 minutes, until you are happy with the depth of flavour.
Strain and pour into cups and garnish with a cinnamon stick!
Serve and Enjoy!
Notes & Alternative Options:
You can multiply this recipe to make a bigger batch.
Brew it ahead of time for a party or gathering and store it in the fridge. This will let the depth of flavour intensify! Remember to reheat before serving!
Wrap the spices and rinds in cheesecloth to make it easier to just fish them out instead of straining them!
Make sure to keep the heat between low and medium and to not boil the wine for too long as this will cook out the alcohol!
